Many Nigerian sportsbooks score low. This is due to one of three reasons:

Our first step is to determine the number of sports and asses available wagering options. For example, we check Pre-Match odds for popular events like EPL matches. A bookmaker offering 30+ disciplines and 500+ different outcomes per game gets 10 points. If the margin on a major football market like the Money Line is under 4%, that’s also the highest point.
Our scoring system is straightforward, evaluating both the range of sports and the margin size, as outlined below.
But market size isn’t everything. Some sites offer dozens of bets on a game’s final score, but only a couple of total markets. While there are plenty of choices, this isn’t the most useful selection, because it lacks more popular options like totals. That’s why we don’t just count the number of options. We measure relevance, too.
Live Streaming
The primary aspect of assessing a bookmaker’s In-Play services is their streaming features. Since almost every sportsbook now offers In-Play betting, it becomes challenging to differentiate them, especially with bookies catering to different sports. However, not all sites provide a strong live-streaming selection, if they offer one at all. This makes it a useful indicator of an operator’s dedication to offering quality and ease to those wagering on real-time events.
We focus on how many sports and leagues are covered, the more – the better. For example, our team checks if there are broadcasts for major tournaments like La Liga or the NBA. We also examine access: Is a registration or positive balance required? Do you need to place a bet to watch for 24 hours? A live-streaming schedule and visual infographics can earn extra points.
Mobile Apps
A top-notch mobile platform loses its appeal if the product falls short, as it’s hard to separate the app rating from the overall bookmaker service. That’s why our team thoroughly reviews apps, but when scoring, we focus on availability: five points if both Android and iOS apps are offered.
The reasoning mirrors live streaming – developing and maintaining apps is also a complex and costly process. If a bookmaker provides applications, it shows their commitment to catering to the entire market and providing convenience to punters.
We dislike the misleading practice of showing Android and iOS logos that merely link to a browser shortcut disguised as an app. To expose this, we test the links to ensure the app actually downloads. That’s what earns the points.
Offers & Payments
Everyone enjoys getting bonuses and cashing out winnings. In this section, we assess platforms’ quality by reviewing payment methods, welcome offers for new customers, and bonuses for existing bettors individually.
Payment Systems
We give one score for each available deposit method, as this increases customer flexibility and serves as a strong indicator of the platform’s quality. While most users tend to rely on just one or two methods, top bookmakers provide a wide range of options, making it easier for potential customers to convert into active ones.
More methods mean more convenience. However, we score strictly. Visa, Mastercard, and other bank cards only count as one point combined. Why? In our opinion, the specific debit card used to fund your betting account matters little. It’s still tied to a bank account, and using any bank card is just one method of making a deposit.

We don’t assess casino rewards in the same way. If available, we note them, but that’s all. However, if the promo requires both wagering and slot spinning, it can lower the rating. In our opinion, sports wagering is more strategic than casino games, where outcomes rely solely on RTP settings, not player decisions.

UX & Support

Although navigation is often seen as subjective, we strive to assess it objectively. We also consider tools like search functions, favourites, and customisable smartphone notifications that help you quickly locate bets.
If everything is easy to find at a glance, we consider the platform user-friendly, especially for newcomers, and that earns a solid 10 points.
What We Don’t Consider
- Online reviews. We know positive reviews for bookmakers are rare and often unreliable. So, instead of focusing on bots’ praise or complaints from frustrated users, we rely on our expertise to evaluate the operator’s product.
- Reputation in the market. It’s too vague and hard to quantify. We understand that size doesn’t always mean quality. Smaller niche bookies often treat customers like royalty, while large corporations may shift focus from sports wagering to casinos over time.
- Partnerships. Our ratings at Match.Center are based on the same criteria for all betting sites, regardless of whether they are partners or not.
